The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

June 30, 2012

Just finished reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

Where to start?

Magical, moving, had me on the edge of my seat / the stairs / a park bench / a bus seat / my work chair /a patch of grass at lunchtime / my bed / my bedroom floor / the kitchen chair until I finished it…

The descriptions are extremely evocative and successfully create the Night Circus, a place I would love to visit again and again!

I think I have become a true rêveur  though I was already!

Deeply moved by this feat of imagination.

The great news is I can continue being part of this world as they have set up a card game on http://www.nightcircus.co.uk !

Camberwell College of Arts and Design BA Final Show

June 24, 2012

Feeling slightly starved of culture, I dragged my friend to the Camberwell College of Arts and Design this weekend to check out their BA Final Shows.

It was really fun getting lost in the College, walking into rooms, up and down old staircases and down corridors with old glass-stained windows! Felt like being at school again!

Here’s what we saw!

Lord’s Cricket, Midsummer Night

June 24, 2012

Off to the cricket we went for Midsummer!

Lord’s Cricket Ground to be exact in St John’s Wood, which has been around since the early 1800s!

We went to watch the Middlesex vs Essex match, and Essex won by a mile!

I was expecting good looking athletes in white cricket gear – a classy affair! Instead we got dancing cheerleaders throughout the match called the Pantherettes and the men were wearing pink!

Nice view though!

Kidrobot, Covent Garden

June 16, 2012

My friend Carole and I randomly discovered the Kidrobot shop in Covent Garden the other day. Total love!

Maybe it was the neon sign or cute bunnies that drew us in but I’m glad they did!

Kidrobot specialises in cute or rude collectible toys. The appeal is that when you buy one, it comes in a box and you cant know which one youve got until you buy it…such old school fun!

I got one for my sister…

Which one would she get?!

The green labbit with a bone for a nose of course!

Can you spot “pie face” Carole?

Ninetyeight club, Shoreditch

June 7, 2012

Thirsty thursday led my housemate and I to the Ninetyeight club for some cocktail sampling…

This gorgeous bar is tucked away off Great Eastern Road, right in the heart of trendy Shoreditch. As it’s at basement level, it was a little hard to find but I’m so glad we did!

The bar is actually the basement if a 6 storey converted victorian building, with offices and flats above.

The decor is to die for. I would literally love to have my house like this! Calm white walls with funky toys, bright coloured sweets, candles everywhere and gorgeous Louis XIV furniture…hard to resist…

The detail is what really makes this bar special.there is enough to talk about to break the ice, but it’s also a calm setting where you can have a good natter in peace.

The cocktails were alright but not worthy of the £10 a pop price tag. Shame.
If they made their drinks more affordable, they would probably attract more people. But I guess it would then lose its boutique feel…

Good place for one after work with a good friend or to put a man to the test!
